Obituary of Gladys Davis

Gladys Blanks Davis, 85, of Lynchburg, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Westminster-Canterbury. She was the widow of Robert ?Bob? Preston Davis. Born September 23, 1926, in Gretna, VA, she was the daughter of the late John Pritchard Blanks and Louella Mayhew Blanks Maxey. Gladys was a professional organist, having served West Lynchburg Baptist Church for many years, where she was also a faithful member. Most recently, she served as organist at Fairview Christian Church. She was the regular organist for Diuguid Funeral Service for many years, as well. Gladys was a charter member of the Lynchburg Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. She is survived by one nephew, Daniel K. Blanks, Ph.D, of Sunnyvale, CA, and his wife, Marguerite Cassidy, and one niece, Donna F. Timm, and her husband, Daniel E. Banks, M.D., of Shreveport, LA., cousins June Stanley of High Point N.C., Kay Hall of Forest, VA and E.P. Bosiger of Forest, VA Gladys is also survived by many wonderful friends from every walk of her life, especially the numerous children who grew up in Belmont Acres and enjoyed her kindness, generosity and understanding. The family would like to thank the 5th Floor staff at Westminster Canterbury and Good Sheppard Hospice for the wonderful care they provided Gladys during her final weeks. A celebration of Gladys? life and faith will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 11:00 AM at West Lynchburg Baptist Church with the Rev Dr. Robert Putt, Rev. Dr. James Newman and Rev. D. Jack Hamilton officiating.. There will be a visitation and reception immediately following the service at the church. A cremation and scattering will take place after the service. Diuguid Funeral Service-Wiggington Road Chapel, 385-8900, is serving the family.
