Obituary of Georgia Isaacs Wood

Georgia Sue Isaacs Wood, 87, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, April 9, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Thompson Wood. Born January 19, 1925 in Campbell County, VA, she was a daughter of the late George Fillmore and Susie Glenn Isaacs. She was a graduate of Brookville High School and Virginia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She was a charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. In addition, she was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Senior Olympics and Virginia Baptist Hospital Alumni Association. Georgia loved to garden and cook, play volleyball, snow ski, swim, water ski and at the age of 86 enjoyed para -sailing. She was truly a ?dare devil?. She is survived by her daughters, Janet Childress, and her husband, Malcolm, of Lynchburg, Gloria W. Nash and her husband, Nelson of Chesapeake, VA; one son, Cecil T. Wood and his wife, Gwen, of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Martha Phyllis Isaacs Slayton and her husband Aubrey of Blacksburg; nine grandchildren, Cecil Timothy Wood , Jr. and his wife Christina, Malcolm ?Mack? Childress, III, Jonathan Edward Nash and his wife Jenna, Dr. Jennifer Nash Holman and her husband Daniel, Meghan Laurel Wood, Heather Childress Day and her husband Edward, Kelsey Kathleen Wood, Dr. Alan Metzl, Jennifer Roach and her husband, Eric; five great-grandchildren, Andrew Wood, Mason Wood, Hayden Roach, Carter Roach and Pierce Holman. She was preceded by four sisters in death, Ruth Arthur, Frances Riley, Mabel Patterson and Marie Lawrence. The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Nygaard and the staff of the CICU and Stroobants Heart Center for all of their love and wonderful care. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 21206 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24502. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Charles Willoughby and Rev. Kenneth Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 PM at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory-Waterlick Chapel, 237-2722, is serving the family.
