Obituary of David Wallace
David Rudd Wallace,
85, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2008 in Runk & Pratt
Nursing Home. He was the husband of Jean
Desmond Wallace.
Born April 11,
1923 in Lynchburg, he was the a son of the late Archie A and
Hattie Rudd Wallace and his step-mother, Margie Holly Wallace.
He was a retired accountant from Montague-Betts Company
and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Dave was a veteran of World War II,
serving his country in the European Theatre. He was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and the
University of Virginia where he was a life member of the Alumni
Association. He was a long time docent of Lynchburg Museum System and Poplar Forest. He was an avid historian of local history
and spoke to numerous civic groups. He also served as a Mended Heart visitor.
In addition to his
wife, Jean, he is survived by one sister, L. Virginia Weber of Lynchburg and several nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Kathryn Wallace.
A mass of
resurrection will be held Friday , October 10, 2008 at 11:00 AM in Holy Cross Catholic Church, with
Monsignor Kenneth Rush officiating . A reception will follow the service in the
church commons. The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 PM at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel. A rosary will be said at 7:30 PM. Interment
will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park following the church reception.
