Obituary of Maxine Fariss

Maxine Wilmer Fariss Maxine Wilmer Fariss, 87, of Lynchburg passed away Thursday, August 20, 2009 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late James Milton Fariss, Sr. of 58 years. Born May 31, 1922 in Lynchburg she was a daughter of the late Ernest Ray and Glennie Mary Padgett Wilmer. Maxine enjoyed serving as a past president of Fort Hill Woman?s Club and was a member of Lynchburg Woman?s Club. She volunteered with the RSVP program of Campbell County and enjoyed camping, playing Bridge and entertaining in her home. She was a long time active member of Euclid Christian Church and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Troy R. Wilmer and two sisters, Mrs. B. J. ?Tena? Knight and Mrs. W. M. ?Lucile? McDavid. She is survived by her son James M. Fariss, Jr. of Richmond; two daughters, Marinda F. Sasser and husband Bill of Fredricksburg and Hannah F. Brooks and husband Wayne of Lynchburg; three grandchildren, Kristen M. Sasser of San Francisco, CA, Kevin B. Sasser and wife Amy of Greensboro, NC, Allison L. Brooks of Lynchburg and a great granddaughter, Anna Catherine Sasser. A funeral service will be held Saturday 1:00 pm in Euclid Christian Church with the Rev. Dr. Edward H. Parrish III officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel today from 7-8:30 pm. The family would like to give special thanks to the dedicated and compassionate staff at The Summit Health and Rehabilitation Center.
