Obituary of Cecil Abbott

Cecil Ray Abbott, Sr., 78, of Lynchburg passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Born in Bedford County on October 14, 1930 he was a son of Lucille Abbott Stinnett of Lynchburg and the late Hildon Theodore Abbot. He was the husband of Nancy Guthrie Abbott for 56 years. Cecile was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country during the Korean Conflict and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 35 years of service. He was a member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, American Legion Post 16, Disabled American Veterans, Hill City Masonic Lodge #183 AF&AM, Scottish Rite KCCH, Eastern Star and the Shrine Club. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Abbott Evans of Forest. Two sons, Cecil Ray Abbott, Jr. and his wife, Janet of Lynchburg and Roger Alan Abbott and his wife, Kelly of Goode. Seven grandchildren, Courtney Abbott, Christopher ?Kip? Abbott, Kristen Wallin and her husband, Matt, Kaitlyn Evans, Klaire Evans, Aaron Evans and Zachary Abbott. Brother in law, L.W. Guthrie, Jr. and sister in law, Bobbie G. Dickerson. Besides his father, Cecil was preceded in death by a son in law, Michael Wayne Evans. A Celebration of Cecil?s Life and Faith will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church with the Reverend Nathanael ?Nick? B. Habel and Dr. Robert Putt officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today, Friday, from 7 to 8:30 PM at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church, 1301 Rivermont Ave., Lynchburg, VA. 24504 or to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 1388, Lynchburg, Va. 24505.
