Obituary of Malcolm Knowles

Malcolm Douglas Knowles Malcolm Douglas Knowles, 52, of Forest passed away Saturday, October 24, 2009 in Guggenheimer Nursing Home after a long illness. He was the husband of Karen O?Brien Knowles. Born August 5, 1957 in Lynchburg he was a son of the late Malcolm Hart and Betty Powell Knowles. Doug was an employee of Southern Air with 33 years service and was former President of the Blue Ridge Chapter of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers. He was involved in Lynchburg Little League baseball having coached and served on the board as Vice President of Junior and Senior League. He was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic and was involved in youth group, Christian Formation and served on the Pastoral Council. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Christopher Douglas Knowles and Joseph Daniel Knowles and wife Elizabeth Lytle Knowles all of Lynchburg; two brothers, David Alan Knowles and Dwayne Scott Knowles both of Culpepper; two granddaughters, Sophia Addison Knowles and Madeline Olivia Knowles and his uncle, Bobby P. Knowles of Evington. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 11:00 am in Holy Cross Catholic Church with The Rev. Monsignor J. Kenneth Rush officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. A reception will be held at the church after the committal service. The family will receive friends at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel today from 7-8:30 pm. The family wishes to thank Dr. John MacNeill and staff, the Oncology staff?s at Lynchburg General and Virginia Baptist Hospitals, family and friends and especially his extended family at Southern Air, Inc. for their love, thoughts and prayers and contributions.
