Obituary of Virginia Rucker

Virginia Randolph Rucker Virginia Randolph Rucker, 97, of Westminster Canterbury died Monday, November 2, 2009 in Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born October 5, 1912 at Sholto, Boonsboro, Va. a daughter of the late John Tinsley Rucker and Katherine Dawson Rucker. She was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and the University of Virginia School of Nursing class of 1933. In 1934 she went to Grace Hospital in Welch, WVA where she served as supervisor of nurses for 10 years. In 1944 she entered the Army Nurses Corps. and was stationed at McGuire Hospital in Richmond until the end of WWII. She was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Boonsboro, where she served on the vestry and was chairman of the alter guild for many years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Rucker Johnson of Jacksonville, Fl., Mary Rucker Barley and Catherine Rucker Lester and a brother, Joshua Eldon Rucker all of Lynchburg. She is survived by her brother, Dr. John Tinsley Rucker, Jr. and wife Aileen of Lynchburg and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Virginia?s Life will be held Friday, November 6, 2009 at 11:00 am in Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Marion Kanour and the Rev. C. Lloyd Lipscomb. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church parish hall after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or the cemetery fund. Diuguid Wiggington Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
