Obituary of Joan Mills

Joan Elizabeth Hughes Mills, 75, of Goode, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at her home after an extended illness. She was the wife of Rev. Carl Byrd Mills, Jr. Born July 3, 1934 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Richard Roy and Mabel Elizabeth Stevens Hughes. Joan was a member of Gospel Baptist Church in Lynchburg. In addition to her husband , Carl, she is survived by one son, Danny Ray Mills and his wife, Nancy, of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; three daughters, Pamela Faye Evans and her husband, Dwight, of Goode, Janet Gail Blankenship and her husband, Billy, of Goode and Margaretti Elizabeth Carpenter, and her husband, Dwayne, of Melbourne , FL; eight grandchildren, Carmen Parrish, Randy Brooks, Wendy Diaz, Danny Brooks, Catie Evans, Jessica Zimmerman, Jason Blankenship and Blake Carpenter; two step-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Carmella Hughes of PA. She was preceded in death by one brother Roy Hughes and one grandchild, Billy Lee ?B.J.? Blankenship, Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Joan?s life and faith will be held Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Gospel Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Clarkson and Rev. Thomas Tuggle officiating.. Interment will be in Virginia Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 PM at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel.
