Obituary of Ruby Hahn

Ruby Schmitt Hahn, 97, of Lynchburg, left this earth very peacefully on Wednesday, November 18, 2009. She was the widow of the late Carl Henry Hahn, to whom she was married for 67 years. Ruby was the daughter of Louis Anthony Schmitt and Subena Overstreet Schmitt. She was born in Campbell County and lived there most of her life. Ruby was one of ten children, born on April 1, 1912. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Aileen S. Martin, Nellie S. Reynolds, and Margaret S. Thomas, and four brothers, Fred Schmitt, Frank Schmitt, Elwood Schmitt and Ernest Schmitt. She was also preceded in death by a grandson-in-law, Aubrey L. Hailey, Jr. Ruby was a wonderful and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She leaves a daughter, Virginia Carolyn Hahn; a son, Alfred Ray Hahn (Rose); three grandchildren, Gwen Gordon Loveless (Paul King), Courtney Ray Hahn (Pam), and Miriam Annette Torian; four great-grandchildren, Kelly Decker, Nathan Abbett, Raychel Hahn, and Emerson Caroline Hailey; and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a dear sister-in-law, Helen Rorer Hahn, and a brother-in-law and his wife, Kenley and Lucille Hahn, all of whom were very generous with their kind deeds, time, and compassion. Through the last several years, Ruby had several dedicated caregivers, the last and closest being Joyce Slusser. She was also cared for by Judy Pouyan, a close family friend. The family would also like to thank Hospice of the Hills for their care and support. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of Virginia Hahn. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society, 2316 Atherholt Rd., in honor of Gwen Loveless and in memory of Aubrey Hailey, Jr. Diuguid Funeral Service-Waterlick Chapel is serving the family (237-2722) is serving the family.
