Obituary of Julia Thomason Glass

Julia Marguerite Thomason Glass, 79, died Thursday, December 3, 2009. She was the widow of the late Thomas Reakirt Glass. Born on February 25, 1930 in Orange, TX, she was the daughter of James Hendon Thomason and Delha Marguerite Eastham Thomason. In addition to her parents and husband of 47 years, she was preceded by her two brothers, Braxton Hendon Thomason and Rawle Buckner Thomason. Julia?s family moved to Huntsville, Texas where she grew up in the Thomason family home. A graduate of Huntsville High School, she attended Sam Houston University and the Julliard School of Music in New York. She received a BA in English with a History minor from the University of Texas where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Julia was the Life Style Editor for, The Huntsville Item. After marrying in 1951 the Glasses moved to Lynchburg where she became active in civic work. She was a member of the Junior Women?s Club and served as Vice President. She was also a member of the Junior League and Blaze editor. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughter of the Republic of Texas, Daughters of the Confederacy/Confederate Union, Lynchburg Garden Club and St. John?s Episcopal Church. She is survived by her four daughters and their husbands: Julia Eastham and Samuel Bragg Waddell, Jr., Mary Byrd and Paul Raymond Denham, Laura Binford and Claytor Graham Coleman, III, Blair Thomas and Wister Palmer Nelligan, Jr., twelve grandchildren, Laura Marguerite Waddell, Samuel Bragg Waddell, III, Paul Tucker Denham, Thomas Christian Denham, Lapsley Glass Denham, Leighton Byrd Denham, Mary Carter Coleman, Stewart Thomason Coleman, Claytor Graham Coleman, IV, Wistar Palmer Nelligan, III, Carter Glass Nelligan, Julia Elizabeth Nelligan, She is also survived by her sister, Mary Mabel Thomason Clegg of Houston, Texas and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, December 7, 2009 at St. John?s Episcopal Church. Burial in Spring Hill Cemetery will Follow. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wistar Palmer Nelligan, Jr., 1341 Cedar Ridge Dr., Sunday, December 6, 2009 from 4 to 6 PM. The family suggests that memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or St. John?s Episcopal Church.
