Obituary of Tye Drinkard

TYE COBB DRINKARD Tye Cobb Drinkard, 79, of Forest died Saturday, January 9, 2010 in the Summit. He was the husband of Betty Flowers Drinkard for 57 years. Born in Appomattox County on May 24, 1930 he was the son of the late Clayton Thornhill Drinkard, Sr. and Sallie Cobb Drinkard. He was retired from General Electric Company after 30 years of service where he received three U.S. patents and one European Patent. He was a U.S. Army Korean Veteran. He was a charter member of Mended Hearts Chapter #16, American Legion Post 16, Elks Lodge #321, London Downs Senior Golf Association, an avid Virginia Tech Fan, and a member of Beulah Baptist Church. Also, he was a past member of Brookville High School Athletic Boosters Club where he worked on the football chain gang for over 30 years. After he retired he enjoyed working on his farm in Appomattox County until his health declined. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clayton Thornhill Drinkard, Jr. and William Wade Drinkard, Sr. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Susan Drinkard Adams and her husband, Jerry of Elkmont, Alabama ; a son, John Clayton Drinkard and his wife, Jacquie of Tampa, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Drinkard of Forest and Phyllis Hollie of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Jessie Forkner and his wife, Janie of Richmond, Blaine Forkner and his wife, Becky of Christiansburg, Mary Beth Larue and Rachel Adams of Elkmont, Alabama, Lorin and Chelsea Drinkard of Tampa, Florida; one great-grandchild, Haleigh Forkner of Richmond. A Funeral Service will be conducted at Beulah Baptist Church at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 with Dr. Maurice T. McCarthy, Jr. and Brian Seay officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, January 11, 2010 from 7 to 8:30 PM at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel on Timberlake Rd.,237-2722. Memorials may be made to Mended Hearts Chapter #16.
