Obituary of Bernice Hicks

Bernice Whitten Hicks Bernice Whitten Hicks, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, February 9th, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late John Robert Hicks II. Born September 14, 1920 in Bedford, VA, she was a daughter of the late Walker Harrison and Jessie Newman Hicks. She was a long time member of Timberlake Christian Church. She is survived by two children, Carol Lee Bass and her husband, Dr. William Bass of Knoxville, TN and John R. Hicks, III and his wife Ann, of Lynchburg, VA; one sister, Jeanette Dalton of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Jeff Miles of Evington, VA and Ashlee Hicks at Virginia Tech; one great-grandchild, Raven Miles of Lynchburg. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raphael Whitten and Lloyd Whitten and two sisters, Emma Dickerson and Nora Smoot. A celebration of Bernice?s life and faith will be held Friday, February 12th at 1:00 pm at Timberlake Christian Church with the Rev. Bob Mooty officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 6-8 p.m. at Timberlake Christian Church.
