Obituary of Irvin Farlow

Irvin Grant Farlow, 86, of Lynchburg passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at his residence. Born in Pittsylvania County on November 9, 1923 he was the son of the late James Monroe Farlow and Lula Rogers Farlow and was the widower of Eleanor Hogan Farlow, his bride for 65 years. Mr. Farlow was a U.S. Army Veteran having served his country during World War II and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He retired from CVTC as the Assistant Manager after 15 years of service. Before that he was the Baker for Sunbeam Bakery for 15 years. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann Largen and Peggy F. Brooks and her husband, Steve all of Lynchburg. Two sons, James Irvin Farlow, Sr. and his wife, Jerry of Goode and Michael F. Farlow and his wife, Martha of Lynchburg. Thirteen grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. Irvin is also survived by his extended family, Hazel Rucker, Nina Johnson, Sandy Simpson, Ann Zyki and Thelda Forbes. A Celebration of Irvin?s Life and Faith will be conducted 1:00 PM Friday, February 26, 2010 at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel with the Rev. Daryl Campbell officiating. Interment will take place at 3:00 PM at Green Lawn Cemetery in Hurt, Va. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the funeral home and following the interment at Irvin?s home, 801 Dinwiddie St. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Salem Veterans Hospital, C/O Volunteer Services, 1970 Roanoke Blvd, Salem, Va. 24153 or to Centra Health Hospice, C/O Hospice of the Hills, 3300 Rivermont Ave. Lynchburg, Va. 24503.
