Obituary of Thomas Moore

Thomas Knight ?Gordy? Moore Thomas Knight Moore, 84, of Lynchburg passed away peacefully Monday, March 15, 2010 at his home. He was the husband of Nancy Astroth Moore. Born February 20, 1926 in Lynchburg, he was a son of the late Samuel Gordon Moore, Sr. and Crystall Watts Moore. He was a US Marine Corp WW II Veteran having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was active in the Brookville Community for many year and was a charter and honorary life time member of the Brookville Timberlake Volunteer Fire Department. He organized and coached the Brookville Comets for many years and was instrumental in starting the Campbell County Youth Football League. He was a long time member of The Brookville Athletic Boosters Club and was on the football chain gang for 45 years and received the 2004 VHSL Region III Award of Merit for his 47 years service. He was a retired employee of General Electric and a member of Timberlake United Methodist Church. In Addition to his wife he is survived by three children, Kara M. Schmitt and husband Milton of Forest, Michael T. Moore and wife Patty of Lynchburg, Donald W. Moore and wife Joan of Williamsburg; a brother, Samuel Gordon Moore, Jr. and wife Bettie of Lynchburg; six grandchildren, Michael T. Schmitt and wife Lisa of Lynchburg, Mark C. Schmitt and wife Allison of Forest, Kevin K. Schmitt and wife Leslie of Lynchburg, Kathryn M. Moore of Alexandria, Jordan K. Moore and wife Amber of Virginia Beach, Austin Gray Moore and wife Malory of Williamsburg, Edward Lynn Dawson and wife Laura of Bedford, Chastity R. Craig of Lynchburg and 16 great grandchildren. A celebration of Gordy?s Life and faith will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 19, 2010 in Timberlake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Tom Bryant and the Rev. Dr. Rob Colwell officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors. Visitation will be held Thursday from 7-8:30 pm at the church. The family expresses their gratitude to Drs Lockridge and Khoury and staffs and Hospice of the Hills for their exceptional care.
