Obituary of Julia Coleman

Julia Gilliam Coleman of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 at Westminster-Canterbury. Twice married, she was the widow of the late, Robert Henry Gilliam and John Edward Coleman. Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she was a daughter of the late Wendel Wilson and Irla Tobias Chaffin. She was retired from the accounting department of the former Fidelity National Bank and later became a realtor with Century 21. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Dayton, Ohio. Mrs. Coleman is survived by her son, Robert H. Gilliam, Jr. and his wife Susan of Lynch Station; three grandchildren, Kay Oken and her husband Bob, Beth Phillips and her husband Blanton and John Gilliam; two step-grandchildren, Nikki Elder and her husband Mike, Ryan Hunley and his wife Shana; four great-grandchildren, Sam and Sarah Phillips and Katie and Sophie Oken; two step-great-grandchildren, Briana and Amber Shelton. She was preceded in death by one brother, Wendel Chaffin and one sister, Charlotte Price. A memorial service will be held Friday, April 16, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in The Commons at Westminster-Canterbury, 501 VES Rd., Lynchburg, with the Rev. Sherwood Smith officiating. A reception will immediately follow the service. Interment will be in the Pocket Presbyterian Church cemetery, Sanford, NC at a later date.
