Obituary of Eugene Mays

Eugene Wayne Mays, Sr., 63 of Lynchburg died August 1, 2010 at Duke University Hospital. Born in Lynchburg on February 2, 1947 to Eugene P. Mays and Helen Viar Mays of Lynchburg. He was a member of Forest Road United Methodist Church. Eugene served the United States Air Force during Vietnam and was a member of the American Legion Post 16. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Addia Mays and Elbert and Vergie Viar of Lynchburg. In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Gail C. Mays; one son, Eugene W. Mays, Jr. and wife, Meghan of Lynchburg; one daughter, Jennifer Mitchell and husband, Kevin of Forest; three grandchildren, Alexis Mays, Collin Mays and Landon Mitchell; brother-in-law, Neil Conner of Appomattox; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 5511 Staples Mill Road, Suite 202B, Richmond, VA 23228. A celebration of Eugene?s life and faith will be conducted 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Diuguid Funeral Chapel Wiggington Road with Rev. Ralph Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Diuguid Funeral Service Wiggington Road.
