Obituary of Everett Saunders

Everett Jenks Saunders, 83, of Lynchburg went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at his residence. Born in Glasgow, Va. on April 22, 1927 he was a son of the late George Coleman (Dude) Saunders and Emma Lelia Hogan Saunders and was the husband of Susan D. Saunders. Mr. Saunders served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a charter member of Lakewood Baptist Church. Mr. Saunders taught Sunday School for 62 years. He retired from Adams Motor Company and Lynchburg Block. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Brenda S. Martin and her husband, Bill of Lynchburg. A step-son, Michael Hopchak and his wife Kim of Evington. A step-daughter, Jacqueline Nixon and her husband, Scott. Three step grandsons, Dylan, Dakota and Drake all of Amherst. A sister, Gertrude S. Cash and her husband, Melvin. A nephew, David Cash and a niece, Carol Burks. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred A. Saunders. A brother, Lee Roy Saunders and two sisters, Edith S. Martin and Isabella S. Mays. A Celebration of Everett?s Life and Faith will be held 11:00 AM Monday, December 6, 2010 at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with Stephen Walker and Dr. Robert DeLong officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the American Legion, Post. 16. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 PM Sunday, December 5, 2010 at the funeral home.
