Obituary of John Palmer

John Bennett Palmer, 80, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011 at his home after a brief illness. Born, December 29, 1930 in Worchester, MA, he was a son of the late Willard and Anne Smith Palmer. John was a graduate of the University of Massachuetts at Amherst. He was a retired engineer from G.E. in Lynchburg and loved any kind of sports, and especially loved playing golf. He was a member of Ivy Hill Golf Club where he played on the Senior League. He was of the Catholic faith. He is survived by three sons, Jay B. Palmer and his wife, Holly, of Madison Heights, Maj. Timothy J. Palmer ( U.S. Army ) , of Alexandria, VA and Maj. Charles E. Palmer ( U.S. Air Force ) of Colorado Springs, CO; one daughter, Nancy P. Fitzgerald and her husband, Willis, of Forest; three brothers,William Palmer and his wife Pat,Richard Palmer and his wife Eileen and George Palmer and his wife, Joann, all of MA; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren A celebration of John?s life and faith will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with the Rev. Dan G. Mason officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post-16 of Lynchburg. A reception and visitation will be held at the funeral home immediately after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Centra Hospice, 2097 Langhorne Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24501. Diuguid Funeral Service-Waterlick Chapel, 237-2722, is serving the family.
