Obituary of Donald Ackerman

Dr. Donald Lee Ackerman, 72, of Lynchburg went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 30, 2011 at his residence. Born in Wellsburg, NY on August 23, 1938, he was a son of the late Charles Ackerman and Helen Borgeson Ackerman and was the husband of Phyllis Joann Ackerman. Dr. Ackerman was a veteran of the U. S. Navy. He received his BA from Liberty University and his Masters and Doctorate from Trinity Theological Seminary. He served the Lord doing Missionary work in the Philippines for 20 years. He was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church and attended Forest Alliance Church. In addition to Don?s wife, he is survived by a son, Mark Charles Ackerman and his wife, Kimberly, of Evington; a daughter, Susan Joann Westbrook and her husband, Jeffrey, of Bedford; and four grandchildren: Morgan Ackerman, Elisabeth Westbrook, Isaac Westbrook and Caleb Westbrook. He is also survived by a brother, Dale Ackerman and his wife, Helen, of Texas; a sister, Shirley Evans of Wellsburg, NY; two sisters-in-law, Mary Cox of Altavista and Ava Vanyo of Florida. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of Don?s Life and Faith will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with Pastor David Blackburn, the Rev. Charles Harbin and Dr. George Stiles officiating. Interment will be private. Don?s family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM today, February 1st, at the funeral home. The Ackermans have requested that memorial contributions be made to the Donald Ackerman Scholarship Fund for a Bible college student in the Philippines. Contributions can be sent to: Phyllis J.
