Obituary of Elizabeth McFarland

Elizabeth Shearer McKinney McFarland, 87, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, February 18, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of James ?Jim? McFarland. She was previously married to the late James Elmer McKinney. Born April 2, 1923 in Lynchburg, VA, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur Lee and Marjorie Elliott Shearer. She was a retired bank teller with the former Central Fidelity Bank (now Wachovia Bank) and a member of Peakland United Methodist Church where she was active in the Cordell Crist Circle. She is survived by two sons, James ?Jim? Elliott McKinney (Betty) and Michael Lee McKinney (Leigh- Anne); one step-son James T. McFarland (Gloria) all of Lynchburg; two daughters, Beth M. Martin (Will) of Washington, NC and Kathryn M. Nichols (Howard) of Lynchburg; one step-daughter, Barbara A. McFarland of San Diego, CA; one brother, Dr. Elliott L. Shearer ( Solly ) of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Virginia Shank (Timothy), J. Bradford Hawks (Jessica), Jonathan Nichols and Ronan McKinney; three great-grandchildren, Caroline Shank, Katie Hawks and Ethan Hawks. She was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Wilbur L. Shearer. A celebration of Elizabeth?s life and faith will be held Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Diuguid Wiggington Road Chapel with the Rev. Edward Clever officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 7-8:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
