Obituary of Myer Waxler

Myer Waxler, 75, of Lynchburg, VA passed away March 10, 2011. He was born in Cambridge, MD, August 30, 1935. He was the beloved son of Isadore & Fannie Waxler of Washington D.C. He received his doctor of philosophy degree in human development in 1976 from the University of Maryland. He also received his Master of Science degree in general experimental psychology from Howard University, Washington D.C., 1969. Fifteen graduate hours in counseling psychology 1964 at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio. BS degree in special education from District of Columbia teachers college, Washington, D.C. 1963. Majored in violin and composition at Julliard School of Music, New York City, September 1953 to January 1954. He worked with Blue Ridge Residential Services, Lynchburg, VA from January 2003 to present as clinical director. He served as Director of field services at Indiana Center for Evaluation, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN from September 1979 to October 1984. He was adjunct professor in School of Education from September 1978 to June 1979 at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN.He was employed by the US Department of Labor, D.C. Manpower Administration, Washington, D.C. from March 1965 to May 1977. From September 1963 to February 1964 he worked for Washington D.C Public Schools instructing emotionally distressed and intellectually disabled children at fourth and sixth grade levels. He served in the U.S. Air Force from March 1956 to January 1960 as a concert violinist with the U.S. Air Force bank/symphony performing concerts throughout the US and overseas. He was honorably discharged in January 1960. In 1987 he wrote the book, ?Goodbye Job, Hello Me,? with R.L. Wolf, as well as an ?Encyclopedia of career change and work issues? (1992) with T. Patty. His most important life changing event was trusting The Lord Jesus Christ as Messiah. Our brother, uncle, stand-in father and friend is survived by a brother, Morris Waxler and his wife Carolyn of Madison Wisconsin and sisters, Bernice C. Bloom, Raynham, MA and Rose Waxler, Gettysburg, PA; sister-in-law- Shirley Robertson, Lynchburg, VA. Nephews - Henry Jay Waxler, Bloomington, IN and A. Michael Bloom, Raynham, MA. Nieces ? Rebecca (Morgan) Ramsey, Charlotte, NC and Autumn (Ethan) Robertson, Lynchburg, VA. Great newphews ? Nick & Ted of Bloomington, IN, Brayden of Lynchburg, VA and great niece, Sophia of Bloomington, IN. He leaves behind many friends including Richard, Julie, Alec & Mitchel Gilman, Forest, VA as well as Donald & Arline Ore of Lynchburg, VA, Esther Shoremaker and family of Gettysburg, PA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Waxler (1976) and Ben Waxler (2005). Please join us in celebrating his life. Visitation will be held at Diuguid Funeral Services, 811 Wiggington Rd, Lynchburg, VA, Friday, March 11, 2011, 6-8 PM. A funerall service will be held at Parkview United Methodist Church, Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 1:00 PM. The service will be officiated by Rev. William G. Mummert of Gettysburg Baptist Church. Interment been changed from Beth-Joseph Cemetery to SPRING HILL CEMETERY. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice. Diuguid Funeral Service-Wiggington Road Chapel , 385-8900, is serving the family.
