Obituary of Helen Smith

Helen Feagans Smith, 64, of Lynchburg, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011 in Lynchburg General Hospital . Born September 24, 1946 in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Robert Ryan and Helen Cruise Feagans. She graduated from Hollins College and obtained a MSW degree from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a therapist with Bridges Treatment Center and a member of St. Paul?s Episcopal Church. Helen is survived by one son, Douglas ?Doug? Ryan Smith of Lynchburg; one daughter, Julie Smith Palmer and her husband, Jeff, of Glen Allen, VA; one brother, Robert Ryan Feagans, Jr. of Forest; one sister, Jane Feagans Proctor and her husband, Bernard, of Madison Heights, VA; two grandchildren, Lila Alice Palmer and Adrienne Mae Palmer of Glen Allen , VA; two nephews, Andrew Feagans Proctor of Richmond, Va. and his fiancée Sarah McIlvaine and Peter Ryan Feagans of Forest, VA; one niece, Katherine Carter Proctor of Asheville, NC. Helen delighted in her family and a special group of close friends. A celebration of Helen?s life and faith will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at St. Paul?s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Todd Vie officiating. Inurnment in the church?s columbarium will follow the service. The family will receive friends Friday from 7-8:30 PM at Diuguid Wiggington Road Chapel.
