Obituary of Richard Hamilton

RICHARD ALVIN HAMILTON, JR. Richard Alvin Hamilton, Jr., 106, formally of 1132 Lindsay St. died on June 9, 2011 at the Oaks of Lynchburg. Richard was the husband of the late Verna Morris Hamilton for 63 wonderful years. Born in Appomattox County on June 30, 1904, he was the fourth child of the late Richard Alvin Hamilton and Bessie Patteson Hamilton. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mabel Kathleen Hamilton, Mary Elizabeth Grow, Nellie May Beale and Virginia Christian Hamilton and his brothers, Kervin Vane Hamilton, Robert St. Clair Hamilton, Lloyd Raymond Hamilton and John William Hamilton. Richard Retired from John P. Hughes Motor Company in 1974. He was a member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church where he was a lifetime Deacon and a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn H. Puckett and husband, Cecil of Forest, Julia H. Ramsey and husband, James of Danville. Five grandchildren, James A. Puckett of Pleasant Valley, NY, Linda P. Hilleary of North Bend, WA. Susan P. Hagreen of Carnation, WA., William Jeffrey Ramsey of Harrisonburg and David H. Ramsey of Chatham and seven great grandchildren. A brother, Hunt P. Hamilton and wife, Pearl. A sister, Lorraine Torrence all of Appomattox. Two sisters-in-law, Ruth Jennings of Christiansburg and Margie Morris of Appomattox. A Celebration of Richard?s life will be held 11:00 AM Monday, June 13, 2011 at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with the Rev. Glen Land and the Rev. Nathanael B. ?Nick? Habel officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the funeral home and other times at the home of Mrs. Puckette, 114 Kirkley Pl., Forest. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Oaks of Lynchburg for their loving care of Richard.
