My husband and I knew George and Alice when they lived in Ludington, Michigan. They were dear Christain friends. It is sad to lose friends, but always so good to know they are Heaven bound. My own husband died two years ago. Maybe he and George are up there shaking hands and getting caught up on all the news. While we know where George is, it is still hard on those left behind, and I wish a sense of peace for you all.

My Dad was a man's man. He was honest, hardworking and committed to his family. I always had a roof over my head, food in my stomach, and clothes on my back. He always made sure I had everything I needed. To be sure, I did not get everything I wanted, but I knew I could count on him to be there if I needed him! Most importantly, he made sure we had a church home where we were brought up in full knowledge of salvation by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.I am truly blessed to have had him as my earthly father, and I could not have wished for a more loving and caring man to mentor and teach me.I love you and will miss Dad until we meet again in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection through our Lord Jesus Christ.Your Son,Jeff

Here's a little of my Dad's life history. He was born August 21, 1921 in Corunna, Michigan, where he attended school and worked on his father?s farm. In WWII he served in the Army Air Corps in the South Pacific Campaign. Following WWII, he worked as a policeman in Owosso, MI, and then in Dallas, TX. In the early 1950?s he settled and raised his family in Midland, TX where he served on the Midland Police Department. He subsequently took a job with Schlumberger in the Permian Basin oil-patch, was a supervisor with Jones Bros. Dirt Paving Contractor and, later, a superintendent with the Texas Highway Department. He also worked as a surveyor, ran a private detective agency with his brother-in-law, Herb Runyan, and operated a small grocery store and gas station on the Rankin Highway. In the late ?60?s he moved his family to Ludington, MI, where he served as a Deputy on the Mason County Sheriff?s Department, and later as the Mason County Drain Commissioner. In 2007, following a series of small strokes, George moved with his wife, Alice, to Lynchburg, VA to be near their son, George F. (Jeff) Ranowsky II and his wonderful family. My Dad was a believing Christian. He found a church home in each community in which he lived, including the Timberlake Baptist Church in Lynchburg. Throughout his life, he volunteered his time to help others wherever his skills were needed. Upon hearing of my Dad's death, a man who was one of the "neighborhood kids" in Midland, TX said: ?He definitely influenced me and, I know, many others to follow the right path. He was not only a great father, he was in my view, more importantly, a great Dad.? He was a truly Great Dad.
