Obituary of Ann Lascell

Ann Wilmoth Farmer Lascell, of Lynchburg, VA. passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011 in Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Peter Laurence Lascell for 47 years . In addition to her husband, Peter, Ann is survived by two sons, David Laurence Lascell, and his wife, Julie, of Roanoke, VA and Richard Berkwood Lascell of Wilmington, NC; three grandchildren, Hailey Brooke Lascell, Amanda Ann Lascell and Ethan Logan Lascell; one sister, Mary Porter Farmer White and family of Heathsville, VA. She was born November 27,1941 in Marion, VA, she was the daughter of Mary Porter Echols and Alfred Berkwood Farmer. Mrs. Lascell held two music degrees from Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. She received organ scholarships for further study at Chautauqua, NY. After graduation, she was the organist for Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and teacher at Atlantic Christian College in North Carolina. She moved to Lynchburg where she served many Christian denominations as organist, faculty at Lynchburg College, flutist in the Lynchburg Symphony and throughout the many years, taught privately in her home music studio. Later, she found a new interest in Celtic music with the hammered dulcimer and bell choirs. She was involved in many community musical activities and provided music for weddings and other family events. She was a member of the Lynchburg Music Teachers Association and the American Guild of Organists. She was an active member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg, VA. Her hobbies were camping along the Blue Ridge Mountains and travel within the U.S. She enjoyed the beauty of nature and its history. Ann was especially gifted to see ?God sightings? in nature and through her study of the scriptures which gave her the ability to write deeply spiritual writings that will have a long and profound affect on her family and friends. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the dedicated medical care at the Pearson Cancer Center and Lynchburg General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church music program, 5810 Fort Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24502, or the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra, 621 Court Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504. A memorial service to celebrate Ann?s life and faith will be held Sunday, June 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Pastor David Gellert officiating. Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory-Waterlick Chapel, 237-2722 is serving the family.
