Obituary of William Smoot

William Edgar Smoot, 92, of Lynchburg passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011. Born in Lynchburg on December 16, 1918 he was a son of the late Neville Washington Smoot and Katie Elizabeth Bragg Smoot and was the widower of Berta Hendrick Parish Smoot. Mr. Smoot was a retired bookkeeper for the Standard Notion Co. and was a member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church. He is survived by a sister, Pauline S. Woody of Hampton and many nieces and nephews In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Frances, Bessie, Dorothy and Katie and 4 brothers, Neville Eugene, Charles Washington, Calvin David and Arthur Churchbill. The family would like to thank Peggy and Owen Tomlinson for their love and compassion for William. The family suggests that memorials be made to your local Hospice or to a charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Glen Land officiating.
