Obituary of Vera MacArthur

Vera Mae MacArthur, 41, of Gladys, passed away Friday, September 9, 2011 at her home after an extended illness, She was the wife of Hugh Arthur MacArthur, Jr. Born February 18, 1970 in Roanoke, she was a daughter of the late Dorothy Wolfe Redman. She was very fond of her mother's special friend and her "step-father", the late Elmo Curtis Cruise. Vera was a homemaker and attended Highland Heights Baptist Church. She also worked as a cook for several local restuarants, and most recently the Court House Cafe. In addition to her husband, Hugh , she is survived by one son, Matthew Hugh MacArthur of Gladys and one step-son, Steven Franklin MacArthur of Appomattox; four daughters, Bridget Nicole MacArthur, Reva Daniele MacArthur, Kayla Brooke MacArthur and Heather Michelle MacArthur all of Gladys and one step-daughter, Crystal Ann MacArthur of Appomattox; five brothers, Randy Redman, Gary Redman both of Gladys, Kenneth Redman and his wife, Rita, and Michael Redman and his special friend, Shirley Underwood and Bobby Cruise and his wife, Julie,all of Troutville, VA; one sister, Teresa Harlow also of Troutville; one grandchild, Xavier Scott MacArthur of Gladys, VA. A celebration of Vera?s life and faith will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with the Rev. Rick Magee officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-9 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Altavista Memorial Park.
