Obituary of William Nichols

William Ross Nichols, 87, of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, September 26, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Patricia Smoot Nichols. Born May 22, 1924 in Gladys, VA, he was the son of the late Giles Moreland and Margaret Farmer Nichols. Ross was co-owner of S&N Volkswagen/Subaru/Audi for 18 years. He retired in 1988.He was a charter member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and served our country during WW-II in the United States Merchant Marines and Maritime Service. Ross is survived by one daughter, Deborah Gigliotti and her husband, Frank, of Virginia Beach and one son Gregory R. Nichols and his wife, Dale, of Lynchburg; one sister, Christine Hale; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Catherine Montgomery officiating. The family will greet friends at the cemetery immediately after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
