Obituary of Dennis Cockerham

Dennis Ray Cockerham, 58, of Lynchburg , VA passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Pulaski, Va. On October 27, 1952 he was a son of the late Stuart H. Cockerham and Doris Denny Cockerham and was the husband of Gayle Rebecca Spencer Cockerham. Mr. Cockerham was a proud graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School in 1971 and was a student of Liberty University and was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. He was a former youth pastor and involved in marketing and the insurance industry. Dennis was also a life long fan of the Washington Redskins. In addition to his wife, Gayle he is survived by his daughter, Amy Lynn Cockerham of Lynchburg. Two sisters, Jeanie C. Brewer and her husband, J.D. of Winston Salem, NC and Tammy C. Robinson of Galax, Va. Dennis is also survived by several special in laws and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael S. Cockerham. A Celebration of Dennis?s Life and Faith will be held 1:00 PM Monday, October 3, 2011 in the Pate Chapel of Thomas Road Baptist Church with the Rev. David Heerspink officiating. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Stonewall Memory Gardens in Manassas, VA. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 PM Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the funeral home.
