Obituary of James Pague

James Bogen Pague, Jr, 89, of Monroe passed away November 27, 2011. He was the son of the late James B. Pague, Sr (Pop) and Janie E. Pague (Nanie) and the brother of the late Dorothy Wyman and the late Peggy Lawson. James (Jim, Jimmy, Papa, Uncle Bubba, Uncle Jimmy, Colonel) was born August 22, 1922 in Augusta, GA. He was the loving husband of the late Mary Elizabeth Deans Pague. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church of Pleasant View, VA. Jim spent most of his years in Portsmouth, Virginia, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1939. He was a long-standing member of Park View Baptist Church, retired in 1971 as a Lt. Colonel of the Army Reserves after 40 years and retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 40 years in 1980. Jim searched and found a 2nd home near Pleasant View, in the mountains above Lynchburg in 1977. In 2000 Jim moved from Portsmouth to their new home, ?The Pinedarosa?, and soon thereafter became a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. Jim was passionate about church and the out of doors. He hiked much of the Appalachian Trail the last hike into his 70?s. Favorite pastimes included camping and travelling, having visited all 50 of the United States. But no destinations were as special as Cape Hatteras and Shenandoah National Park, almost always with his beloved wife, Mary. Jim Pague is survived by daughter Joy (and husband Tyrone), sons, Steven (and wife Lila), Chris (and wife Connie), Tim (and wife Lynn) plus 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. A graveside Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:30 pm Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Fort Hill Memorial Park, 5196 Fort Ave., Lynchburg, Virginia 24502 with Rev. John Gordon and Rev. Barry Tucker leading the service. Diuguid Funeral Services is serving the family. Special thanks to Kathy Wright and Leah Childress of Home Instead for their special care!
