Obituary of Vera Feagans

Vera Lucille Feagans, daughter of the late Julia Elizabeth Bondurant Feagans and John William Feagans died Friday, December 2, 2011 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was born in the family home on Old Forest Road September 12, 1917. She attended Robert E. Lee Junior High School and graduated from Brookville High School. She was the only living charter member of Forest Road United Methodist Church. Vera graduated from Virginia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing at which time she received the O. B. Barker Memorial Award for the most outstanding nurse in the graduating class. After graduating from Virginia Baptist Hospital, Vera worked as a private duty nurse for one month. She, then, became a medical/surgical supervisor at the hospital, working on Mundy 1 and West 3. She remained in this position for 40 years retiring in 1979. She is survived by a sister, Mary B. Feagans Stinnett and her husband, Page C. Stinnett. Four nephews, John Robert Feagans and Joseph Page Stinnett of Lynchburg, Edward Donald Feagans of Greensboro, NC and John Covert Feagans of Beckley, W.VA. Two nieces, Vera Elizabeth (Beth) Stinnett Miller of Amherst and Deborah Feagans Boyd of Virginia Beach. 12 great nieces and nephews, 11 great great nieces and nephews and a devoted friend and caregiver, Pauline Irvin. A graveside service will be conducted 2:00 PM Monday, December 5, 2011 at Spring Hill Cemetery with Chaplin Wayne Lanham officiating.
