Obituary of Lillian Campbell

Lillian Martin Campbell Lillian Bryson Martin Campbell died December 24, 2011 in Lynchburg, VA. Twice married, both John Wade Martin and Clarence M. ?Buck? Campbell preceded her in death. Her sister, Elizabeth Bryson Stone also predeceased her. She was born October 5, 1926 in Bryson City, North Carolina, daughter of the late Judge Thaddeus Dillard Bryson and the late Zulia Ketchie Bryson. Lillian was retired from the Lynchburg City Public School system, where she was an elementary school teacher for forty years, the majority of which was spent at Perrymont Elementary School. Lillian was one of the first female graduates of Duke University, and followed Duke basketball closely, rarely missing a game. She was a member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Lynchburg Retired Teachers Association and enjoyed her stamping hobby, producing many beautiful greeting, birthday and Christmas cards. Lillian is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Dillard Martin and Marianne Martin Howell (Gordon P. Howell, Jr.), grandsons, John William Viar (Crystal), Thaddeus Daniel Viar (Robin), Graham Wade Martin, and great-grandchildren Caden William Viar, Jackson Flynn Viar, Daniel Reid Viar and Kaitlyn Laura Viar. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Meals on Wheels, P. O. Box 1388, Lynchburg, VA 24505. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 28 at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church on Fort Avenue by the Reverend David Gellert. The family will receive friends in the church social hall after the service. Burial will be private. Diuguid Funeral & Crematory- Wiggington Road Chapel, 385-8900, is assisting the family.
