Obituary of Joyce Ewers

Joyce Adair Drinkard Ewers, 82, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012. Born in Tyreeanna, VA on December 21, 1929, Joyce was the daughter of the late William Edward Drinkard and Iva Mae Keesee. She was the widow of Ballard Monroe Ewers, Jr. and was preceded in death by a brother, William Maynard Drinkard. Joyce was a long time member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for numerous years. Joyce is survived by her sister Jean Drinkard Price and husband Clyde Price, Jr. of Gretna, four children, Cheryl E. Samans of Exeter, N.H., Edward S. Ewers, Sr. and fiancé Pam Cyrus, Ballard M. Ewers, III and wife Kim and Jeffery W. Ewers and wife Rachel, all of Lynchburg. Additionally, she is survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and numerous cousins. The family extends a generous thank you to caregiver Janee Burke and prior, Elizabeth Shultz, and especially to Hospice of the Hills for their genuine care. A brief remembrance service will be held at the Diuguid Wiggington Road Chapel by Pastor Carlton Gunter Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 12pm. The family will receive friends Monday, January 9, 2012 from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery . An informal celebration of Joyce?s life will be held following the graveside service at the home of Jeff and Rachel Ewers, 4657 Alabama Avenue, Lynchburg, Virginia.
