Edith Estes Franklin Edith Estes Franklin, 90 of Palm Coast, FL and formerly Lynchburg, VA, passed away, Monday, January 9, 2012 in Florida. Twice married, her first husband was the late Robert S. Franklin and was married for 43 years. Her second husband was Lynchburg businessman, Roy V. Jacobson, from 1996 to 2006. They enjoyed their many friends, travel to different places and loved to go to dinner and dancing. Born February 7, 1921 in Pikeville, KY, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Bertha Estes. She later lived in Cincinnati, OH, where she met and later married Sgt. Robert S. Franklin while he was serving at Fort Knox, KY. A longtime resident of Lynchburg, Edith was involved in numerous social activities and organizations including Eastern Star and Nobelettes. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and later joined Timberlake United Methodist Church where she attended for many years and volunteered her time on many church projects and activities. Edith was employed at Peoples Bank in Lynchburg during the 60?s as a printer and later worked at Village Needle Shop in Forest, VA where she loved helping others learn to knit and cross stitch. After retirement she became an active volunteer at Lynchburg General Hospital in the gift shop and enjoyed her many hours there assisting customers and managing the daily activities of the shop. In 2008, Edith moved to Palm Coast, FL to be near her two daughters and to enjoy the warmer climate. There on January 9th she passed away quietly in her sleep. She is survived by two daughters, Roberta Carroll Smith (Bill) of Fernandino Beach, FL and Barbara Withers Thompson (Jack) of Palm Coast, FL; one sister, Allene Maynard of Ft. Myers, Fl; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert S. Franklin, a son, Robert M. Franklin ; a daughter, Rebecca L. Franklin and her second husband, Roy V. Jacobson. She will be remembered by all as a loving mother and grandmother, a dear friend, a teacher of crafts to many and committed volunteer to worthy causes. Her life was always enjoyed to its fullest. A celebration of Edith?s life and faith will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Timberlake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Colwell officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory-Waterlick Chapel, 237-2722, is serving the family.
