Obituary of Edward Lewis

Edward Lee Lewis, 95, of Lynchburg departed this life peacefully at home on Saturday, January 14, 2012. He was born March 10, 1916 to Willie F. Lewis, Jr. and Opecha Morris Lewis in Sedley, VA. He attended Courtland High School and Petersburg Commercial College. Volunteering for the Army early in 1941, he served a total of 5 years reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. Mr. Lewis was a 32nd. Degree Mason and a member of Purdie Lodge # 170 in Windsor, VA and was presented a 60 year service award in 2011. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Temple in Richmond and the Khedive Shrine Temple in Norfolk. He owned and operated Lewis Equipment Company for 30 years. He was an avid bird hunter, enjoyed riding his tractor and had shown horses most of his life. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Nellie Cox Lewis and a grandson, Christopher Ryan Lewis. He is survived by his four sons, Edward M. Lewis of Lynchburg, Larry Y. Lewis of Forest, Keith B. Lewis of Hurt and Patrick A. Lewis of Virginia Beach. In addition, he is also survived by ten grandchildren, Bill, Shannon, Amber, Jennifer, Bryan, Joseph, Rielly-Anne, Cecilia Mae, Josh and Danielle. Seven great grandchildren and a very dear friend, Brenda Crane. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM today, January 16, 2012 at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. A graveside service will be held 12 Noon Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at Virginia Memorial Park, Route 221, in Forest. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Purdie Lodge #170, 26 Holland Dr., Windsor, VA. 23487.
