Obituary of Vincent Alones

Vincent William Alones, 95, died at his home in Lynchburg Virginia of congestive heart failure Feb. 1, 2012, on the 64th anniversary of his marriage to Agnes Rose Jeckewicz, also deceased. He is survived by his daughter, Vinessa Alones and son-in-law Jim Fraley of Lynchburg and son, Vincent P. Alionis and his wife, Mary of Grants Pass, Oregon. Grandchildren are AJ and Eric Fraley and Zosha and Cazimir Alionis. He is also survived by numerous cousins scattered around the globe. Vince was born August 23, 1916 to Peter and Elizabeth Alones, immigrants from Lithuania, in Long Island City, Brooklyn NY. He grew up in the New York City area and graduated from Sewanaka High School in Floral Park NY in 1934. He worked at whatever jobs he could, helping his parents. He joined the US Navy after Pearl Harbor and served for more than 4 years. He was a chief petty officer aboard a PT boat in the Phillipines. After the war he resumed working for the Long Island Railroad, married Agnes, started his family, and together they became pillars in their community of Floral Park Centre. They were active with the local civic association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and volunteer fire department. Vince was a student of European and American history and was a valued member of many organizations. In 2008, Vince left Floral Park and moved to Lynchburg to be with his wife, Agnes. He joined the local Disabled American Veterans and American Legion chapters and made good friends at the Support the Troops Rally. We would like to thank all our friends who have supported us during these last few years as well as Centra PACE, Centra Hospice and all the other health providers who provided excellent care to both Agnes and Vincent. A visitation and reception for family and friends will be held 11:00 Am to 1:00 PM Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel. Diuguid Funeral Services on Wiggington Road are serving the family. Burial will be at Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury NY. Services provided by Dalton Funeral Homes, Floral Park NY.
