Obituary of James Wright

James Elmo Wright, age 90, died on Thursday, February 9, 2012. Jimmie was born September 13, 1921, in Amelia County, VA. He was predeceased by his parents, Cornelia V. and Elmus C. Wright. Jimmie spent his childhood in Midlothian and Chesterfield and graduated from Chester High School in 1940. He attended the University of Richmond. His relationship with his wife, Lois, began when they were both students in high school, where he literally ran into her in the hallway. Sometime later, Lois saved him a seat on the school bus. In his words ?from then on, there was no one else?. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lois Parham Wright. Also, daughters, Connie W. McDearmid of Virginia Beach, and her children Jeffrey W. Clodfelter, and wife Debbie, Todd D. Clodfelter, and wife Michele, Kelly C. White, Scott W. Clodfelter, and wife Tina, and Sean H. Clodfelter; Gay W. Eadie, and husband Jim, and their children Trevor D. Wilkins, and wife Jamie, Whitney W. Carroll, and husband Bob, and Josh Eadie, Nicole Crain, and husband Cliff, Kristin Jacobs, and husband Drew, and Lauren Baker, and husband Nate; Ellen W. Prabhakar, and husband Vikas, and her children, Brandy L. Ewell, and husband Jeremy, and Erin D. Bishop, and husband Trent. He is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, C. Kenneth Wright, and wife Dianne, of Richmond. Jimmie went to the Navy recruiting office the day after Pearl Harbor, and took the oath on December 28, 1941. He proudly served his country until the end of the war. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Chief Yeoman in October 1945. He later served in the Naval Reserve. In 1947, he began his 41-year career in the life insurance business with Peoples Life Insurance Company. He received numerous awards and recognition as a leader within the insurance industry. He retired in 1986 from his position of Field Vice President. After his retirement from the insurance business, he worked as a consultant in his brother?s Avis franchise in Lynchburg, until his retirement in 1997. Jimmie was an avid baseball fan his whole life, and his favorite team was the New York Yankees. After moving to Lynchburg, he supported the local team, and was a member of the Hillcats Booster Club. Funeral services with full military honors by the American Legion Post 16 will be conducted on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at 2pm at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel, 21914 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg, VA 24502. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, February 12, from 2pm to 4pm, and on Monday, February 13, from 6pm to 8pm . A reception will be held immediately following interment at the home of Gay and Jim Eadie, 1675 Austin Mill Rd., Evington, VA, 24550.
