Obituary of William Jones

William Stratton Jones, Jr., 86, of Lynchburg passed away Friday, February 24, 2012 at his residence. Born in Lynchburg on February 18, 1926 he was a son of the late William Stratton Jones, Sr. and Carrie Smith Jones and was the husband of Phyllis Mayo Jones. Mr. Jones served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corp. and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Anne J. Tate and her husband, Donald of Henrico. A son, William Brian Jones and his wife, Darlene of Albemarle, NC. Four grandchildren, Jessica Lauren Jones, Wesley Alexander Jones, Adam Lewis Tate and Nathan Ryan Tate and his fiancé, Sally M. Perkins. Two sisters, Elizabeth J. Yeatts of Lynchburg and Margaret J. Pedersen of Pueblo, CO. Two sisters-in-law, Kathryn M. Phillips and her husband, Cliff and Dorsey D. Mays He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn J. Cox and Sally J. Capps and a brother, Frank G. Jones. A sister-in-law, Jean M. Preston and a brother-in-law, John J. Mayo, Jr. A Celebration of Bill?s Life and his Faith will be held 1:00 PM Monday, February 27, 2012 at Rivermont Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Glen A. Land and the Rev. Nathanael B. Habel officiating. A reception for family and friends will held at the church following the service. Interment will take place 3:00 PM Monday, February 27, 2012 at Spring Hill Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.
