Obituary of Margaret Barbour Sligh

MARGARET KATHRYN BARBOUR SLIGH Margaret Kathryn Barbour Sligh, 86, of Madison Heights passed away Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at her residence. Born in Pittsylvania County on March 7, 1926 she was a daughter of the late Richard David Barbour and Anna Bell Bates Barbour and was the widow of Kyle Sligh. Mrs. Sligh was the owner of Margaret?s Tiny Tavern Restaurant and was a member of Tree of Life Church. During WW II she work at an aircraft factory and also worked for Lola?s Café and the Junior Lunch. She is survived by a son, Dwight Kelly Bailey and his wife, Judy of Centrala, WA. Two Daughters, Brenda Bailey Carwile and her husband, Wayne of Madison Heights and Tonya Bailey Keener and her husband, Brian of Brooklyn, NY. Six grandchildren, John F. Hubbard and his wife, Wendy of Cape Cod, Mass., Rebecca M. Hubbard of Lynchburg, Tammy H. Thompson and her friend, Pete Barnette, Kathryn M. Hubbard of New Bedford, MA, Brandi Gardea and her husband, Danny of CA. and Ian Bailey and his wife, Shawna. Twenty great grandchildren, Michael Campbell of Virginia Beach, Elspeth Hubbard of Mass., Chris Grosslein of Mass., Zachary Grosslein of Mass., Sherree Long of Washington, Shannon Long of Lynchburg, Kristen Knowles of Myrtle Beach, Leland Adams of AZ., Melinda Hastings of Lynchburg, Tiffani Tyree and her husband, Jason of Amherst, Chris Hubbard of Lynchburg, Leigha Howard of Mass., Darius Payne of Mass., Kiara Payne of Mass., Brianna Payne of Mass., Cassi Perez of CA., Devin Fonseca of CA., Tyler Bailey of CA., Evan Bailey of CA. and Zachary Bailey of CA. Eight great great grandchildren, Parker Reed of Wash., Lincoln Thomas of Wash., Alyssa Orm of Afton, Alana Vitalli of Lynchburg, Lillyanna Vitalli of Lynchburg, Jackson Tyree of Amherst, Ryland Tyree of Amherst and Tra-Shon Howard of Mass. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Lee Bailey and her longtime partner, Clarence Reid Webb. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Lee Bailey, a great granddaughter, Jessica Ann Hubbard and three brothers, Raleigh David Barbour, Thomas Barbour and Garnett Barbour. The family would like to thank Centra Hospice and the nursing and rehabilitation staff at Guggenheimer Nursing Home for the loving and gentle care given to Mrs. Sligh. A Celebration of Margaret?s Life and her Faith will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with the Rev. Mike Dodson officiating. Interment will follow in the Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, March 30, 2012 at the funeral home.
