Obituary of George Flanik

George Scott Flanik, 64, of Lynchburg, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Virgnia Baptist Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Dorothea Flanik. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Adelaide Flanik. Born September 8, 1947 in Lynchburg, he was the son of the late William Charles and Delphia Flanik. George was a graduate of E.C.Glass High School, VaTech, Purdue University and later attended James Madison University. He was a design engineer with AREVA and was also a member of the AREVA corporate "College of Experts". He was a member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He was a huge Star Trek fan and also served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. George loved his three dogs, Maggie, Chloe and Lexie and also loved camping with his wife in their RV. In addition to his wife, Dorothea, he is survived by a son William Maurice Flanik of Toronto, Canada; two daughters, Rebecca Gail Flanik Leddingham of Madison Heights, VA and Lesley Marie Flanik Moore and her husband, Cameron, of Charlotte, NC; a stepson, Erik C. Blaum of Lavalette, NJ; a stepdaughter,, Kimberly Joy Blaum of Great Falls, Montana; one sister Sally A. Flanik; four grandchildren, Joey Leddingham, Michael Moore, Caitlin Moore and Tyler McGonnell. He was preceded in death by one son, Scott Michael Flanik. A celebration of George's life and faith will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Fort Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phillip Waltz and Rev. Janet Hawkins officiating followed by a committal service in Fort Hill Memorial Park. A reception and visitation will be held at the church after the burial.
