Obituary of Wilda Carpenter Scoles

Wilda Dee Carpenter Scoles, 79, of Lynchburg, passed away Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Centra Hospice House. She was the wife of John F. Scoles for 56 years. Born November 21, 1932, in Fort Worth, TX, she was a daughter of the late Jesse John Carpenter and Loye Yarbrough Carpenter. Wilda graduated from Birdville High School in Texas and later Austin College and Texas Christian University, Harris College of Nursing in 1955, where she earned her B.S.N. degree. She retired from the American Red Cross bloodmobile team in 1985. She also worked in several hospitals, sometimes in teaching positions focusing on medical-surgical nursing. She was a member of the Happy Hookers (Rug Hooking) group, Patches and Pieces Quilting Club, Garden clubs, Smokey Mountain Orchid Society and several Ceramics and Porcelain Art groups. She was an active member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church and participated in many programs of all the churches she has been a member of in other locations. She is survived by her husband, John F. Scoles; three sons, Stephen Wesley Scoles and his wife, Vivian, of Lynchburg, Glen Albert Scoles and his wife, Sheila, of Moscow , Idaho, Eric Brian Scoles and his wife, Janice, of Rochester, NY; one daughter, Cherise Eileen Bates and her husband, Timothy, of Cambridge, NY; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Kenneth Lloyd Carpenter. The family would like to thank Centra Hospice and the Hospice House staff for their wonderful care given to Wilda. A celebration of Wilda?s life and faith will be held Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. A reception and visitation will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Centra Hospice, 2097 Langhorne Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24501 or Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church, 5810 Fort Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24502 or your own place of worship.
