Obituary of William Poplin

William Claude Poplin, 89, of Forest, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at the Privett Home. He was the husband of the late Zillian Hinson Poplin. Born June 20, 1923 in Norwood, NC, he was a son of the late Pierson Jones Poplin and Hattie Jenkins Poplin. He was a member of Mead Memorial United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir and taught adult Sunday school classes. He was also a certified lay speaker. Mr. Poplin enjoyed writing poetry and did so all of his life. His granddaughter, Tracy, recently published his work in hard cover. He would not sell his work, but, would give freely his book to friends. He was retired from The Winebarger Church Furniture Company where he was a master church furniture maker, taking on many specialized projects that still exist today in churches around the country. He proudly served in the United States Army during WW-II. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Baudaillier of Forest; one brother, Harold Ray Poplin of Aquadale, NC; two grandchildren; Tracy Hawkins Graff and her husband, Jeff, of Forest and Teagan Renee Brooks and her husband ,Curt, of Goode; four great-grandchildren; Sarah Graff, Mark Graff, Andrew Graff and Pierson Brooks. A celebration of Mr. Poplin?s life and faith will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with the Rev. Steve Turner and Rev. James Perkins officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Virginia Memorial Park.
