Obituary of Florence Caldwell

Florence M. Caldwell ?Flo? died Thursday, August 30, 2012. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on June 7, 1919. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Caldwell, Jr., and her sister Doris. She is survived by her children, Mary K. Whitmore (Ed) and John S. Caldwell III (Pam), her grandson Kai, her brother Bill and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. After graduating from nursing school, Flo worked at Johns Hopkins until she joined the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She was shipped to the Panama Canal Zone where she met and married John Caldwell. They traveled together to North Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, Germany, northern Virginia and Florida before finally settling in Bedford for retirement. Through nursing, raising her family, cooking and helping relatives, friends and neighbors, Flo gave most of her life to caring for others. The family will receive friends at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel, Sunday, September 2, 2012 between 7 and 9 PM. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM in the family cemetery, 1388 Caldwell Lane , Bedford County (Off Falling Creek Rd.) with the Rev. Hank Boschen officiating The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Green and Seven Hills Hospice for their care and kindness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 7336 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg, Va., 24502 or to Seven Hills Hospice, 2250 Murrell Rd., B-2, Lynchburg, Va. 24501.
