Obituary of Bernice Wright

Bernice Mawyer Wright, 92, of Big Island passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Privette Home. Born in Amherst County on October 3, 1920 she was a daughter of the late Arthur Wilson Mawyer and Nellie Bell Hudson Mawyer and was the widow of Harry Benjamin Wright. Mrs. Wright was a member of Big Island United Methodist Church. She is survived by a son, H. Wayne Wright and his wife, Carolyn of Lynchburg. Four daughters, Helen W. Puckett of Bedford, Carol W. Martin and her husband, Kenneth of Lynchburg, Betty W. Willoughby of Lynchburg and Judy W. Hensley and her husband, Wayne of Bedford. A brother, Harold Mawyer and his wife, Madaline of Amherst. A sister, Nannie Brooks of Chester. Eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one great great grandson and two step great great grandsons. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a grandson, Tommy Puckett, Jr., a brother, Stanley Mawyer, three sisters, Viola Jennings, Stella Franklin and Maxine Adams. Two son-in-laws, Thomas William Puckett, Sr. and William E. Willoughby. The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Wortley and his staff, Centra Hospice and her caregivers, Milly Lowry and Janet Privette. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Centra Hospice, Big Island Life Saving Crew or Big Island Fire Department. A graveside service for Bernice will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, October 6, 2012 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Charles E. Johnson officiating.
