Obituary of Gerald Cheatham

Gerald Alexander Cheatham, 83, of Gladys, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of the late Shirley Everidge Cheatham. Born August 24, 1929 in Gravel Ridge, Campbell County, VA, he was a son of the late Thomas Alexander and Irene Jones Cheatham. Mr. Cheatham was retired Assistant Paymaster with Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation. He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He is survived by one son, Richard ?Ricky? Alexander Cheatham of Gladys and a daughter, Sandra ?Sandy? C. Maranto, and her husband, Tim, of Round Rock, Texas; one brother, Gary M. Cheatham and his wife, Katie, of Lynchburg; six grandchildren,, Emma Cheatham, Grayson Cheatham, Alex Maranto, Jordan Maranto, Journey Maranto and Quest Maranto; a special nephew, Mickey Cheatham and two special cousins, Robbie and Tommy Garbee. He was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin J. Cheatham and one sister, Joyce C. Harvey. The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at Lynchburg General Hospital for their wonderful care given to Mr. Cheatham A funeral service will be held Monday, October 22, 2012 at 5:00 P.M. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Galford and Rev. Samuel Caldwell officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 3-5 P.M. at the church prior to the service . Burial will be in the church cemetery. A reception will follow the burial in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 5662 Red House Rd., Rustburg, VA 24588. Diuguid Funeral Service & Crematory-Waterlick Chapel, 237-2722, is serving the family.
