Obituary of Wyatt Skinnell

G. Wyatt Skinnell of Lynchburg, VA. passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013. He was the husband of Carolyn Keeling Skinnell. Born on December 7, 1944, in Lynchburg, Va., He was the son of the late Roy H. and Mamie Foster Skinnell. He was preceded in death by his brother, Roy H. Skinnell, Jr. and sister, Shirley Thurman. Having put himself through college, Wyatt proudly graduated from Virginia Tech in 1967, earning a BS degree in Accounting. While at Virginia Tech he was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi and sang with the Varsity Glee Club where he was elected as a Techsir which remained one of his proudest achievements. After graduating he received his CPA and went on to form his own successful CPA firm in Lynchburg, VA. He later became CFO of Jamco, Inc. and retired in 2011 as a Financial Advisor of Stifel Nicolaus. He served on the Board of Directors for the YMCA for 21 years, Treasurer of the Fox Runn Property Association for 23 years and was a member of the Lion?s Club and Peakland United Methodist Church. As an avid golfer, Wyatt was a long time member of Boonsboro Country Club with plans of moving to his beach house in Southport, NC. Wyatt was a highly motivated, respected, self starter who always put family before himself. He is survived by his two children, Matthew Garland Skinnell of Johns Creek, Ga. and Katie Skinnell Helfen of Wake Forest, NC., and their spouses Christa and Jordan. He adored his three grandchildren who called him ?Poppa?; Kiran, Andrew and Lincoln. He is also survived by his twin sister, Carol Baumgardner and her husband, Roger, their children, Jay and Marybeth and their families. His sister-in-law, Betty Jane Skinnell and her daughter, Betty Ann Gammon and family. His sister-in-law, Ann Carter and husband, Vance. Among his many cherished friends, he is especially remembered by Jack and Carolyn Elliott, Bill and Joyce Miles, Bill and Martha Jones and Tom and Maureen Jividen. Wyatt will always be remembered as a loving , compassionate, highly principled, successful man of character who will remain in our hearts forever. A Celebration of Wyatt?s Life will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Peakland United Methodist Church with the Rev. A. J. Edwin Clever officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, March 22, 2013 at Diuguid Wiggington Chapel.
