Obituary of Azia Moon

Azia Owen Short Moon, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, March 21st. at Virginia Baptist Hospital, after suffering a stroke March 1st. She was born August 23, 1914 in Pittsylvania County, VA. to the late Edgar F. and Fannie Kate Neal Short. She grew up in "the country" , and graduated from Renan High School in 1932. She married William Rudolph Moon in 1937 and moved to Lynchburg, where they resided until he passed away in 1991 and she remained. She was also predeceased by her son, Dwight Rudolph Moon in 1975 and her oldest daughter, Gwendolyn Fay Moon, who passed away two weeks after her husband. She was also predeceased by four sisters, Mary Louise Stevens, Margurite Short Arendall, Eula Mae Stevens and Shirley Ann Petersen and two brothers, Woodrow F. Short and Edgar F. Short, Jr. She is survived by her youngest daughter, Rhonda M. Capps and husband, David of Lynchburg. Two step-grandchildren, David J. Capps, Jr. and wife, Jessica of Frederick, MD. and Sarah C. Capps of Richmond. She is also survived by three sisters, Merle Mayhew of Hurt, Dorothy Bernthal and husband, Alan of Broadway, VA. and Rita Livingston and husband, Gary of Westminster, MD. and sister-in laws, Dorothy Powers, Marie Short, Emma Stephens, Doris Moon, Virginia Moon, Helen Varney and Doris Godish and many nieces and nephews. She was remarkably healthy her entire life, which she attributed to her gardening and eating right. Except for the birth of her children, she never spent a night in the hospital until the age of 91. She was a gentle, kindhearted and graceful lady whom everyone loved. The family would like to thank the staff of Westminister Canterbury, Runk and Pratt, the Campbell County EMT's, the doctors and nurses of Centra Health and Hospice of the Hills for their loving care over the past year. The family will receive friends at the Diuguid Wiggington Road Chapel, on Tuesday, March 24, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM. A Celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, March 25 at 11:00 AM also at Diuguid Wiggington Road Chapel, conducted by Dr. Robert Putt. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
