Obituary of Helen Lee Stowe

Helen Lee Stowe, 90, of Lynchburg passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Campbell County on Oct. 6, 1922 she was a daughter of the late Herman Pierce Lee and Mabel Ford Lee and was the wife of 62 years to the late J. Wistar Stowe. Mrs. Stowe was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. She began her life with Mr. Stowe in the skies over the Lynchburg Airport having shared their vows in a Stinson Reliant airplane. After the ceremony, the pilot performed a "Wing-wag" maneuver to signal to friends and family watching from the ground. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Stowe Abbott and her husband, W.T. David Abbott of Forest, two grandsons, Troy D. Abbott and his wife, Lynn of Hollywood, MD. and Michael S. Abbott and his wife, Heather of Christiansburg, and four great- grandchildren.She is also survived by a brother, Burton P. Lee of Roanoke and a host of caring and close friends. A Celebration of Helen's Life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 9, 2013 at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel with Dr. Robert Putt and Rev. James Newman officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 PM Thursday, August 8, 2013 at the Funeral Home.
