Obituary of Bernice Downey Lair

Bernice Downey Lair, 81, of Lynchburg passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at her residence. Born in Lynchburg on March 1, 1932 she was a daughter of the late Rev. Moses C. Downey and Nellie Kelly Downey and was the widow of James Madison Lair. Mrs. Lair was a member of Fairview Heights United Methodist Church and was a retired administrator for Craddock Terry Shoe Corp. She is survived by two sons, J. Michael Lair and his wife, Margery of Mechanicsburg, PA and Thomas M. Lair and his wife, Melinda of Tampa, FL. Three grandsons, Matthew Lair of West Chester, PA, Thomas Lair, Jr. and Cameron Lair both of Tampa, FL. Two brothers, Billy Downey and Jimmy Downey both of Lynchburg. She is also survived by a number of dear friends from Bentley Commons. A Celebration of Bernice's Life will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Reason Chandler and the Rev. Kenneth Lawhorne officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside service at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel on Timberlake Rd. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Seven Hills Hospice, 2250 Murrell Rd., Lynchburg, Va. 24501
