Obituary of Lena Hess Ray Proffitt

LENA HESS RAY PROFFITT "Ma-Maw" Lena Hess Ray Proffitt, "Ma-Maw", 87, of Lynch Station, Va. died November 15, 2013 at home after a long battle with cancer. Born in Russell County, VA. on January 23, 1926 she was a daughter of the late Patton Hess and the late Eliza Cox Hess. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Ray and her second husband, Carl Proffitt also 6 brothers, Bill, Harry, Joe, Iris, Wilson and Walter Hess and 2 sisters, Bertha Hess Morrison and Emma Hess White. She is survived by 2 sons, James Ray (Sally) of Rosedale, VA. and Harold Ray (Rachael) of Tazewell, VA. A special grandson, Gary Ray of Grundy, VA. 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren. A sister, Ruby Hess White of Forest. A special niece, Ruby (Cissy) Clark. Her devoted caregiver, Oma Anderson of Lynch Station, also many nieces, nephews and cousins. Special thanks to Centra Hospice for their loving care of Lena and especially, Milly, Teresa and all the others. Family and friends will gather from 6 to 8 PM Monday at Diuguid Waterlick Chapel. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday at Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery at New London.
